CS2 Cases With Knives: Full List by Knife Family and Real Odds

Which CS2 cases drop knives, which drop gloves, and what the 0.26% (about 1 in 385) gold-slot chance costs in keys. Full list by knife family, updated October 2026.

Most older CS2 weapon cases can drop a knife, and every key-opened weapon case shares the same gold-slot odds: 0.26%, about 1 in 385 openings. Your choice of case decides which knife family you can get, not how likely you are to get one. Only the glove cases never drop knives.

Which CS2 cases can drop knives, and which drop gloves instead?

A case drops a knife when its gold slot holds a knife pool, which covers most cases from CS:GO Weapon Case through Dreams & Nightmares Case. Seven weapon cases put gloves in that slot instead: Glove Case, Operation Hydra Case, Clutch Case, Operation Broken Fang Case, Snakebite Case, Recoil Case and Revolution Case. Those never drop knives.

The Sealed Dead Hand Terminal, released March 11, 2026, also has a gloves-only gold pool (22 gloves), and it is a Terminal that can drop weekly rather than a key-purchase case. You don't need the $2.50 key for it. Souvenir packages and sticker capsules never drop knives.

For a model-by-model breakdown, see our CS2 knife types guide. The glove guide covers the glove side.

Which cases drop which knife family?

Each case carries one fixed knife pool, defined by a model group and a finish style (Original, Chroma or Gamma).

Do some cases drop only one knife model?

Yes. The five original-finish Huntsman-group cases each carry a single model: Huntsman Weapon Case drops the Huntsman Knife, Operation Breakout only the Butterfly Knife, Falchion Case the Falchion Knife, Operation Wildfire Case the Bowie Knife and Shadow Case Shadow Daggers. Spectrum, Spectrum 2, Operation Riptide and Dreams & Nightmares share the full five-model pool.

A narrow pool does not improve your odds. It only fixes the model, and you still have to hit the 0.26% gold roll first.

CS2-era knife content is the Kukri Knife (Kilowatt, Gallery), Chroma-finish Shattered Web knives (Fever) and Gamma-finish knives (Dreams & Nightmares).

Our wiki lists the exact finishes per model.

What are the real odds of getting a knife from a CS2 case?

You have a 0.26% chance per opening of hitting the gold slot, and a far smaller chance of any one specific knife. Standard CS2 case odds are Mil-Spec 79.92%, Restricted 15.98%, Classified 3.20%, Covert 0.64% and a rare special item 0.26%.

Rarity Official odds Roughly 1 in
Mil-Spec (blue) 79.92% 1.25
Restricted (purple) 15.98% 6
Classified (pink) 3.20% 31
Covert (red) 0.64% 156
Rare Special (gold: knife or gloves) 0.26% 385

These are rounded. Perfect World's disclosure puts the rare special rate at 0.256%, conventionally shown as 0.26%, which is closer to 1 in 391. Our rarity tiers and case odds guide has more detail.

What are the odds of a specific knife?

Much lower, because the gold roll only decides that you got a knife. Valve doesn't publish per-finish odds, but if items in a tier are equally likely, Kilowatt's 13 Kukri finishes work out to about 0.26% divided by 13, roughly 1 in 5,000 for a named finish. That is my own arithmetic.

StatTrak lowers it further. A StatTrak knife is about 0.026%, roughly 1 in 3,850 openings.

What does chasing a knife cost?

Each opening costs the case plus a key, and the key is usually the bigger part. A key costs $2.49 in the in-game store, and keys bought since October 2019 are untradeable and unmarketable.

As a worked example, a Fever Case had a lowest Skinport listing of $0.53 on 24 September 2026, so one opening cost $3.02 with the key. The same tracker put Fever's return at about 52% of that cost, and most cases at 55% to 90%. Prices move daily, so treat these as a snapshot.

Openings Chance of at least one gold item Keys only Keys plus Fever Case ($3.02 each)
100 about 23% $249 about $302
385 about 63% about $959 about $1,163
1,000 about 93% $2,490 $3,020

The chances are 1 minus 0.9974 raised to the number of openings. That is my own math, not a published figure. About 37% of openers still have no gold item after 385 openings, and nothing is "due", because each opening is independent. The gap between cost and average return is the house edge, and it applies to every case. For the method, see how to calculate a case's expected value.

What did the October 2025 trade-up change do to knives?

Since Valve's October 2025 update, cases are no longer the only route to a knife. Five StatTrak Covert items can be exchanged for one StatTrak Knife, and five regular Covert items for one regular Knife or Gloves item, from a collection of one of the items provided. HLTV's report on the update has Valve's patch notes.

You can't choose the exact model or finish. The result comes from the gold pool of one input's collection, so five Coverts from one case point you at that case's pool. That makes it a deterministic route, but the inputs cost money.

The market reacted fast. Reports put the loss in total skin market value at over $1.75 billion within hours of the patch, and cheaper knives and gloves saw the largest price declines. Our trade-up contracts guide covers inputs and float rules.

Which case should you open for the knife you want?

Pick by the knife and finish you want, because each pool is fixed and the odds are identical.

You want Open Note
Karambit, M9 or Bayonet in Gamma Doppler Gamma, Gamma 2 Five-model Bayonet group
Karambit or Flip in Doppler or Tiger Tooth Chroma, Chroma 2, Chroma 3 Five-model Bayonet group
Any of the five in Fade or Slaughter CS:GO Weapon Cases 1-3, Revolver Original finishes
Butterfly Knife and nothing else Operation Breakout Only knife in the pool
Butterfly in Chroma or Gamma Spectrum, Spectrum 2, Riptide, Dreams & Nightmares Shared with Bowie, Falchion, Huntsman, Shadow Daggers
Talon or Stiletto in Doppler Prisma, Prisma 2 Horizon knives in Chroma
Skeleton or Nomad in Doppler Fever Case Armory-released
Kukri Knife Kilowatt Case Gallery is retired from the Armory
Key takeaway: Gold odds are the same in every standard case. What differs is which knives are in the pool, what the case costs and whether it is still obtainable.

How do knife cases work on CSDROP?

You can browse and open cases on CSDROP's case list. CSDROP cases are site cases, not Valve containers, so Valve's 0.26% figure does not apply. Check the odds shown for the case before you open it.

Rolls are provably fair, so you can verify each result yourself. Our guide to how provably fair works walks through it.

Note: CSDROP is 18+ and uses real money. Case opening is entertainment with a built-in house edge, not a way to make money. Set a budget before you start, stop when it's spent, and never chase losses.

FAQ

Which CS2 case has the best odds for a knife?

None. Every key-opened weapon case with a knife pool shares the same 0.26% gold chance. They differ in which knives are in the pool and in price, and every opening also needs a $2.49 key.

Can you get gloves from a knife case?

No. A case's gold slot holds either knives or gloves, never both. Gloves come from the seven glove cases (Glove, Hydra, Clutch, Broken Fang, Snakebite, Recoil, Revolution) and the Sealed Dead Hand Terminal.

Which cases drop the Kukri Knife?

Only Kilowatt Case and Gallery Case. Gallery is retired from the Armory as of August 2026, so Kilowatt is the easier one to find.

Can you trade up for a specific knife?

No. The output comes from the gold pool of one input's collection, and you can't pick the model or finish. Using five Coverts from one case narrows the result to that case's pool.

How many cases do you need to open to get a knife?

On average about 385, but that is a probability, not a guarantee. By my math, roughly 63% of openers hit a gold item by then and about 37% do not. Only open what you can afford to lose.

Are knives worth more than the case and key?

A single knife can be worth far more than the case and key, but it is rare. On average an opening returns less than it costs. The Fever Case example above returned about 52% of its $3.02 cost.
